Deliver Us: The Exodus
The Book of Exodus is regarded as one of the greatest books ever written. There’s a reason its contents have been the basis for a number of films over the past century. Exodus has all the makings of a Hollywood blockbuster—twists and turns that shock and surprise, drama and action, and events and characters of “Biblical proportions.”
But perhaps the greatest strength of the book is that God through Moses invites His people into the narrative. Long past their delivery from slavery, centuries after their wilderness wandering, God’s people continually returned (and still return) to the account of the Exodus. Because the Exodus story is our story.
Looking around, one might compare our nation to that of Egypt, complete with our own gods of greed and self-satisfaction. Like the Israelite slaves seeking a happy ending to their dreadful plight, we, too, long for more than the doom and gloom experienced in life. We join with the cry of all God's people, "Deliver us!" And in Christ Jesus, He does.
Throughout this series, we will explore the first few chapters of Exodus, seeing God's gracious rescue plan at work for His people.
